Since 2006 TexARTS, a nonprofit performing arts center, has called Lakeway home. Located in the heart of the Lake Travis area, TexARTS has served thousands of Austin area students by offering year-round arts education classes in voice, dance, acting and the visual arts. Additionally, TexARTS produces a full season of completely staged youth and teen musicals.
At the helm of TexARTS is Robby Armitage, the producing artistic director. Armitage, a veteran of eight Broadway shows, has designed an arts education curriculum that caters to the pre-professional musical theatre student as well as to students who just want to have fun. He used his New York connections to assemble an impressive roster of instructors – many of whom are also Broadway veterans and also serve on the faculty of the nationally recognized Texas State University musical theatre program.
TexARTS has an incredible summer planned, offering full-day, half-day and mini camps in dance, theatre, voice and visual arts. This summer kicks off with the annual Musical Theatre Intensive. Students in this three-week, production-based intensive will work, at a pace equal to any professional theatre company, to rehearse, stage and perform their version of a Broadway musical. The TexARTS Summer Musical Theatre Intensive offers an extra perk as student will work with Broadway teaching artists in preparation for opening night. Past summers have seen sold out public performances of “Legally Blonde” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Visit tex-arts.org to find out which show will be produced in 2014!
In addition, TexARTS will offer summer intensives in acting, ballet technique and the various styles of dance. Throughout the summer, the popular “Best of” camps offer students the opportunity to learn songs, scenes and choreography from various kid-friendly Broadway hits. Students ages 2 – 5 can take part in the fun by enrolling in a Mini Camp. Mini Camps are an exciting introduction to the world of theatre. It’s a summer you won’t want to miss.
