The Austin Diaper Bank will hold a grand opening/open house of its new warehouse on Sept. 21 as a kickoff for Diaper Need Awareness Week 2016.
The Austin Diaper Bank recently celebrated its third anniversary by moving into an expanded warehouse to meet the diaper needs of needy children and senior citizens in Central Texas. Organizers say an estimated 12,000 children in Central Texas do not have a sufficient supply of diapers, which are not covered by federal assistance programs. Without diapers, babies cannot participate in early childhood education programs. Without childcare, parents cannot go to work.
Since beginning three years ago in founder Beverly Hamilton’s home, the Austin Diaper Bank has grown to provide more than 500,000 diapers to more than 4,000 people in Central Texas. The Austin Diaper Bank helps close the “diaper gap” in the community by taking in donated diapers and working with over 40 partner agencies to get diapers where they are needed most.
Locally, Sept. 26-Oct. 2 has been proclaimed Diaper Need Awareness Week by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the City of Austin, Travis County and Williamson County.
The Austin Diaper Bank warehouse is located at 8711 Burnet Rd., Suite B-34.
