The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2020–21 calendar at its Jan. 27 regular voting meeting.

Three options had been presented to students, staff, and families for voting Nov. 4 to Dec. 30. Calendar 1 received the majority of votes, with 61 percent. A total of 16,562 individuals voted, exceeding all previous calendar votes.

The first day of class for students will be Aug. 18, with Aug. 11 as the first day for teachers. The last day of class for students will be May 26, 2021; teachers will end their year May 27, 2021.

Thanksgiving Break will remain five days long, Nov. 23–27.

Winter Break

  • Students: Dec. 21, 2020–Jan. 5, 2021 (12 days)
  • Staff: Dec. 22, 2020–Jan. 1, 2021 (9 days)

Spring Break will be March 15–19, 2021.

Other details of the calendar include:

  • Number of student instructional days: 175
  • Holidays (all students and staff): July 4 and Sept. 7 (Labor Day); Jan. 18, 2021 (MLK Jr. Day); and May 31, 2021 (Memorial Day)
  • Elementary parent conference days (staff development at secondary campuses): Oct. 12 and Feb. 15, 2021
  • Bad weather makeup days: Feb. 15 and April 2, 2021
  • Staff development waiver days:
    • Elementary schools: Jan. 5 and April 2, 2021
    • Middle and high schools: Oct. 12; Jan. 5, Feb. 15 and April 2, 2021

Because Austin ISD is a District of Innovation, campuses may choose to add professional development days/student holidays. Those dates have not yet been determined.
