Four local students received scholarships from Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) to increase educational opportunities for at-risk students. SYF operates 30 non-traditional high school academies across the country, housed primarily in Simon properties, and also provides a scholarship to one student in every community where there is a Simon property.
Barton Creek Square honored Currie Larrimer and Quinn Simpson, both from LASA High School. Larrimer received an Award of Excellence Scholarship, totaling $10,000 over four years, and plans to attend Southwestern University in the fall. Simpson received a $1,500 scholarship and plans to attend University of Chicago in the fall.
Lakeline Mall presented Rachel Blanchard from Cedar Park High School with a $1,500 scholarship. Blanchard plans to attend Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in the fall.
The Domain presented Saskia Holman from LASA High School with a $1,500 scholarship. Holman plans to attend Northwestern University in the fall.
Since its inception in 1998, SYF has helped more than 14,000 at-risk students receive a high school diploma, and has awarded more than $16 million in scholarships.
“Simon Youth Foundation is a national organization, but we can feel the benefit of its efforts right here at home,” said Jana Griswold, Area Director of Marketing and Business Development at Barton Creek Square and Lakeline Mall. “We are incredibly proud to invite our shoppers to join us in supporting this incredible organization.”
Barton Creek Square, Lakeline Mall and The Domain are now offering community members the opportunity to support local students, scholarships and academies through Simon Gift Card Purchases. $1 from every SYF Simon Visa gift card purchase will support scholarship and graduation programs in the community.
