In a followup to a story we brought you in December, two local charities were finalists in a community grants contest, but failed to win the big prize. Bernzomatic recently announced the winners of its Find Your Fire Community Grants Program. The three winners were a middle school in New Jersey, a children’s bedding nonprofit in Illinois, and a youth centers organization in Chicago.

Although Austin’s Hound Makerspace and GirlStart Summer Camp did not win the grand prize, they were named finalists. Each organization will a $1,500 grant, as well as $500 worth of Bernzomatic products to help with their project. The grant money and products will help Hound Makerspace to build a number of “Little Free Libraries” in East Austin for children, while GirlStart Summer Camp will expand its STEM programming offered to girls entering 4th – 8th grades.
