The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) hosts a week of events commemorating Deaf Awareness Week 2016 at the school’s south Austin campus at 1102 South Congress Avenue.

Sept. 20, 8 p.m.–TSD invites the community for Free Popcorn and Disney Family Movie Night, starting at 8:00 p.m., on the big screen, outdoors on the school’s football field. Come early for popcorn and refreshments. Bring chairs and/or blankets and a picnic. (No alcohol and no pets allowed, please.)

Sept. 21, 6 – 7:30 p.m.–TSD presents and invites public input on the school’s Campus Master Plan. Come learn what’s in-store on the TSD campus and see plans for anticipated reconstruction and renovations.

Sept. 22, 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.–TSD welcomes Tim Albert to Austin. Allen will address TSD students in assemblies throughout the day. Allen is President of National Black Deaf Advocates and currently Dean of Students at Indiana School for the Deaf. A leader in the national Deaf community, Allen’s storied career has always included service and a focus on advocacy.

Sept. 23, 4 – 8 p.m.–TSD hosts an evening get together with friends and neighbors, at Jo’s Coffee, 1300 South Congress Avenue, featuring unique performance showcases.

In addition, The TSD Heritage Center museum is open to the public for walk-in tours Sept. 20-23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Texas School for the Deaf is the oldest continuously operating public school in Texas.
