Austin Public Health will hold a free flu vaccine clinic on Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free flu shots will be available for uninsured Travis County residents 6 months of age or older and all Medicare recipients (please bring card). The clinic will take place at Travis High School, 1211 E. Oltorf St. No appointment is needed, and walk-ins are welcome.
Low-cost flu shots will be available at Shots for Tots/Big Shots clinics for children who are uninsured or Medicaid recipients, and for uninsured adults. Cost of the flu vaccine is $25 for adults, $10 for children and free for children with Medicaid. No one will be denied services if they are unable to pay. Seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and continue through late May and typically peaks in January. Austin Public Health urges everyone to take these steps to minimize the spread of flu:
- Get an annual flu shot.
- Wash your hands often.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve and not your hands.
- Don’t touch your face with your hands — avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- If you feel sick, stay home from work or school.
