Summer Film Camp, presented by Austin Film Festival’s Young Filmmakers Program, returns in June for its 12th annual program of screenwriting, filmmaking and claymation workshops for aspiring filmmakers ages 9 – 18. These hands-on workshops, led by inspired industry pros, teach campers how to find and tell their own stories, as well as the basic steps in making films. This immersion in a creative world is not only skill-building and idea-triggering, it’s also really, really fun.
In addition to workshop sessions, campers participate in panel discussions with guest speakers. Past speakers include Anne Rapp (screenwriter – Dr. T and the Women, script supervisor – Funny People, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Color Purple), Jeff Nichols (writer/director – Take Shelter), Dan French (Emmy®-nominated late-night comedy writer), Alvaro Rodriguez (screenwriter, Machete) and Tom Holland (writer/director – Fright Night). Topics are based on the expertise and experiences of these creative heroes, who not only inspire campers but talk to them about the bigger world of film.
The campers’ finished films will premiere at the Summer Film Camp Showcase (Location and times TBA). Students will also receive a DVD copy of their projects so they can always have the fruit of this summer’s experience.
All workshops and panels are held at St. Austin Catholic School.
