BASIS Austin Primary is a tuition-free, open-enrollment charter school serving grades K–4. As a part of the acclaimed BASIS Charter Schools network, BASIS Austin Primary offers a STEM-infused liberal arts program, a dynamic co-teaching model, and a well-balanced variety of academic courses and extracurricular programs. Subject Expert Teachers guide students through a rich balance of liberal arts and STEM-inspired courses, at an accelerated pace, to compete at the highest international standards. BASIS Charter School students consistently score at the highest proficiency levels on the OECD Test for Schools, surpassing both national and global rates by 3–10 times, across all areas—math, reading, and science.
The BASIS Charter School Curriculum encourages discovery and exploration of new concepts and ideas, from kindergarten forward. Students learn to think critically and creatively as they engage in science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as humanities, arts, Mandarin, and PE.
Health and fitness are encouraged, as children take regular movement breaks throughout the day and practice martial arts to develop focus, strength, and confidence. Various extracurricular clubs and sports promote a culture of community and collaboration.
In kindergarten, students have both a Kindergarten Lead Teacher and a Teaching Fellow. Grades 1–3 are also fully supported by two teachers in each class. Subject Expert Teachers engage students in new concepts and guide them to content mastery, while Learning Expert Teachers manage and provide individual assistance to students. Grade 4 students practice greater autonomy in
a supportive culture, as they prepare for the challenging coursework of middle school.
