BookSpring’s 2016 Read-A-Thon is driving kids batty about literacy. “Batty about Books” is the theme for the annual BookSpring Read-A-Thon, January 25-February 5. This year’s Read-A-Thon, sponsored by KXAN News and the Austin American-Statesman, promises to shine a spotlight on the importance of early childhood literacy. Proceeds from Read-A-Thon will help provide a continuum of literacy services to children in need in the Greater Austin area.
Read-A-Thon is for kids that love to read as well as those that need a little encouragement. During the two-week Read-A-Thon, participants read as much as they can, solicit pledges from friends and family to support their efforts, and earn fun incentive prizes for themselves and their school. There is still time to register and win prizes or make a pledge to support a participating reader. Visit the Read-A-Thon online at www.readathon.bookspring.org.

Last year, thousands of students read half a million pages with 32 schools participating. This year’s Read-A-Thon seeks to surpass that, with the help of a record-breaking 35 participating Austin schools. Any individual can register to participate on their own if they want to get in on the fun.
