With 1,100 acres of pine forests, canyons and meadows to explore, McKinney Roughs Nature Park is the natural place for your child to discover the wonders of the outdoors in a safe, fun and educational day-camp setting. Nestled along the Colorado River and the Lost Pines in Bastrop County, your child’s summer awaits.
McKinney Roughs Nature Camp seeks to foster an appreciation for nature by inviting campers to explore the world around them through outdoor, experiential learning.
Change to “Our goal is to promote conservation and inspire young people to be good stewards of their natural resources through direct experience of Texas Colorado River and the surrounding land.”
McKinney Roughs Nature Camp offers four full-day camps each week based on age. Each camp combines outdoor education and recreation activities exploring a weekly theme, allowing for in-depth exploration and fun. Campers will investigate ponds, meadows, forests and the river using scientific tools like binoculars, insect nets, dip nets and more.
Each camp’s activities are graduated so the campers participate in more adventurous activities as they move into higher age camps. We also offer eight weekly sessions throughout the summer with sessions running from the week of June 15 to August 10.
Three weeks of Teen Adventure Camp allow older campers (ages 13-15) to experience outdoor recreation while learning valuable outdoor leadership skills with the guidance of an adult mentor.
