In May, the State Bar of Texas and Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) awarded the winners of the 2016 Law Day contest, an annual competition that invites Texas students to submit essays, photographs and posters that celebrate the rule of law.Abigail Scharf, a student of Northwest Elementary School in Pflugerville and nominated by the Austin Bar Association, won second place in the poster contest for grades K through 2.

Caitlin Legg, a homeschooled student nominated by the Williamson County Bar Association, won second place in the poster contest for grades 9 through 12.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day in 1958 to challenge Americans to understand how the rule of law impacts their lives, and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in a democracy.
