Local school districts are beginning to register children for next fall’s kindergarten classes. Most experts agree that the following are signs of general kindergarten readiness:
- Understands and follows two- and three- step instructions.
- Goes to the bathroom independently.
- Manages zippers, buttons and shoes.
- Identifies some letters of the alphabet and can count to 10.
- Can hold a pencil and cut with scissors.
- Shows an interest in books and storytelling.
- Is receptive to learning new things.
- Gets along with other children by sharing and taking turns.
- Demonstrates an ability to work with others through compromise and communication.
- Identifies basic shapes.
